Walt Disney World FastPass+ Services: A Guide to Best Plan Your Next Disney Vacation

Walt Disney World's FastPass+ selection is the best in the theme park industry! They allow Disney resort guests to plan 60 days in advance of their trip, they are accessible to reserve on your computer or mobile device when you log in to your My Disney Experience account, they are connected to your MagicBand and/or theme park ticket card, and are FREE for Everyone!

Here's what you should know about Walt Disney World's FastPass+ services

before your next magical vacation!

What are Fastpasses?
Walt Disney World's FastPass+ experience allows guests visiting the parks to reserve a time to attend attractions and shows. when you have a reserved time frame, your wait for these experiences are lower than if you were to be in the standard lines. Typically a standby wait time averages between 30-60 minutes. With your FastPass+ selection your average wait time is between 10-20 minutes. Wait times vary based on the crowd levels during your trip; these could be due to the season, special events, time of the day, parades, shows, and attraction popularity.
How much does the FastPass+ service cost?
At Walt Disney World FastPass+ services are FREE!! You can chose up to 3 fastpasses to start your day. All fastpasses must be at the same park. After you have completed your 3 preselected passes, you can add on 1 FastPass+ selection throughout the day using your My Disney Experience App or a FastPass+ kiosk in the parks. You must complete your fastpass before you can reserve another.

Pro Tip: If you plan early FastPass+ [or FP+ for shorthand] selections for your day in the parks, you can continue to reserve FP+ selections until the park's close! FP+ attractions and shows do have a limited number allocated each day, and may run out of open time frames.
How does the FP+ service work?
There are 5 easy steps to reserving and enjoying your FREE FastPass+ service at Walt Disney World!

  1. Guests staying on Walt Disney World property may reserve their FP+ selections up to 60 days in advance of their first day at their resort. Guests staying at other accommodations may make their advance reservations 30 days prior to their first day in the parks.
  2. Guests can reserve their FP+ selections by visiting their My Disney Experience account. Your My Disney Experience account home page will feature a timeline for planning your next magical vacation.  On this timeline you will find a circle with the FP+ logo. Simply click the logo and follow the prompts to make your selections! You will select your travel party, date, and park you will be visiting to get started. Available times and attractions will be listed for your selections.
  3. When deciding which times you should make your FP+ reservations for, be sure to keep in mind all your other special plans! Do you have a relaxing day at the Senses Spa planned? Are you dining with characters for lunch? Planning to see a parade or special show? Keep these time frames (and travel time to them) in mind when making your FP+ selections.
  4. FP+ selections have a 1 hour reservation limit. For Example: If you have made FP+ reservations for Jungle Cruise, in Magic Kingdom's Adventureland, at 11:00 am, you have until 12:00 pm to check in at the FastPass+ line. After your time frame has expired you will no longer be able to enjoy your reservation, and will have to use the standby line. Disney understands that some plans run a little behind; there is a 10 minute grace period in which your Disney Cast Member will honor your expired FP+ reservation. However, it is always better to keep to your planned FP+ time frame as possible. Pro Tip: If you have noticed that you are running behind for your reserved time frame and will not be able to make your FP+ reservation you can log in to your My Disney Experience App and modify your experience for the next available show or attraction.
  5. When you've arrived to the parks you will want to have your MagicBand or theme park ticket card with you at all times. Simply touch your MagicBand mickey (or theme park ticket card) to the mickey on the FastPass+ post, wait for it to turn green, and you're all set! Time to enjoy your selection!
What are the best attractions to FP+?
Some experiences are better to make FastPass+ reservations for than others. However, it's always important to keep your travel party in mind when making your selections. For those traveling with children, keep in mind the height restrictions and enjoyment factors. (For Example: Your 10 year old may LOVE Haunted Mansion, but your 3 year old may find it scary.) Do you have any medical conditions such as motion sickness, back problems, or are an expectant mother? Some attractions are better to not participate in. For a full list of Family Friendly attractions please click HERE!
Bellow is a list of my personal Disney FP+ suggested attractions based on the popularity of the attraction and organized by park. These are the experiences most likely to have their allocated FP+ selections fill up and have long standby wait times.
  • Magic Kingdom:
    • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
    • Splash Mountain
    • Big Thunder Mountain
    • Space Mountain
    • Peter Pan's Flight
    • Jungle Cruise
    • Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin
    • Princess Meet and Greets
    • Enchanted Tales with Belle
    • Haunted Mansion
    • Pirates of the Caribbean

  • EPCOT
    • Soarin
    • Test Track
    • Mission Space
    • Frozen Ever After

  • Hollywood Studio
    • Slinky Dog Race
    • Toy Story Midway Mania
    • Alien Saucers
    • Star Tours
    • Tower of Terror
    • Rockin' Rollercoaster
    • Fantasmic*
      • "Fantasmic!" is a night time show hosted at Hollywood Studios. This is a VERY popular show at the park, and seats fill up FAST! once you are done with your 3 preselected FP+ experiences for the day, you may want to consider reserving a FP+ for early bird seating to this show. However, if you miss the designated seating time you will be with other standby guests and directed to the next available seats by the Disney Cast Members. Additionally, you can have reserved seats by making special dining reservations or signing up for the Fantasmic dessert party.

  • Animal Kingdom
    • Flight of Passage
    • Na'vi River Journey
    • Mount Everest
    • Kali River Rapids
    • Dinosaur
    • Kilimanjaro Safari

Walt Disney World's FastPass+ services sound AMAZING! What's the Catch?
Walt Disney World's FP+ service IS amazing! However, to ensure the happiness of its guests, there are some rule to the FP+ experience.

  1. You cannot choose the same attraction twice. If your 3 preselected FP+ are completed, then you may be able to snag another FP+ for the attraction if they haven't run out. Otherwise you can enjoy the attraction using the standby line.
  2. Walt Disney World has some tier selections across their parks. For Example: When visiting EPCOT, you can only choose 1 Tier A attraction per day. Again once your 3 preselected FP+ have been completed you may be able to grab another from the Tier A attractions later in the day.
    1. Tier A Attractions:
      1. Frozen Ever After
      2. Soarin'
      3. Test Track
    2. Tier B Attractions:
      1. Mission Space
      2. Spaceship Earth
      3. Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival
      4. Journey to Imagination
      5. Living with the Land
      6. The Seas with Nemo and Friends
      7. Turtle Talk with Crush
      8. Character Spot
        1. Mickey and Friends
  3. There are time restrictions. You have 1 hour to enjoy your pass before it expires. You can change expired passes to new available FP+ selections on your mobile device using your My Disney Experience app or in the parks at one of the FP+ kiosks. You will need to complete a set of 3 FP+ selections for the day before you can select from all tiers again, or select a FP+ for another park if you are Park Hoping for the day.
  4. There is no overlapping FP+ experiences. If you have a FP+ for Flight of Passage, at the Animal Kingdom, beginning at 12:30pm, you will not be able to select a new pass until 1:35pm or later when making your preselections. However, if you are finishing up your 3 perselected experiences, you can log in to your My Disney Experience account and choose a new FastPass while in line for your last experience.
    1. Example: You have Soarin as your 3rd preselected FP+ for the day. Your FP+ time slot begins at 2:30pm, and you arrive at 3:00pm. After scanning your MagicBand or ticket card at the FP+ check-in post, you can make a new FP+ reservation for 3:10pm! At this point you no longer have to wait for the 3:30pm end time of your last fastpass because you have already checked in! Again this is only AFTER you've completed your 3rd preselection for the day, or are only scheduling your fastpasses one at a time the day you arrive in the park. (3 FP+ selections are still needed at 1 park before you can make selections at another park.)

Walt Disney World's FastPass+ services are the best in the theme park industry! They allow resort guests to plan 60 day in advance, they are accessible to reserve online or on your mobile device when using your My Disney Experience account, they are connected to your MagicBand and/or theme park ticket card, and are FREE for all guests! Although the rules of making your FastPass+ selections may be a little tricky, just remember you have 3 passes, at one park,
with no overlapping time frames, to start your day! Once all the planning is done,
all that's left is to have some FUN!!

I enjoyed my first trip back to the Walt Disney World parks in September 2020 so much that I could not dream of a better way to spend my holiday season! The moment I returned home I was already deep into my new travel plans! Ten weeks later I was back on a plane and meeting up with some amazing friends! When I arrived back to the magic, for my second time since their phased reopening in July, there were some noticeable changes. In September Walt Disney World parks and resorts had been operating at a low capacity rate. As of my return, the capacity levels had increased by approximately fifteen percent. This increase of guests traveling for the holidays did lead to longer wait times for the park attractions, and caused both the theme parks and Disney Springs to reach their capacity for the day with increased regularity. If you are hoping to visit the Walt Disney World properties in the new year be prepared to experience long wait time and make your reservations well in advance!
